WAP is dead, but what’s the future of mobile?

FOMWAP has never been a big success, I guess the possibilities were just a bit too limited. I’m sure however that within a couple of years, the mobile web will be (at least) as important as the web is today. We already see a growth in the availability of mobile accessible websites and the first location-based services are available.

How will the mobile web emerge in the coming years? That’s the main subject of the future of mobile conference. I just registered, hope it will be an inspiring day!

Dick Hardt on Identity 2.0

I attended thenextweb conference last friday. Dick Hardt was one of the speakers, he did his ‘usual’ talk on Identity 2.0. Althought it was the second time I saw his presentation in real live, it’s still inspiring and fun to watch. Online identity is becoming more and more important and initiatives like openid are about to change the way we deal with our online presence.

For those who haven’t seen Dick’s talk yet, it’s a must see:
(oh, and be sure not to miss the shirt of the guy hosting the conference in this movie)

Heading to FOWA in London

fowaJust packed my stuff… I’m heading to London for the Future of Webapps. Bunch of great speakers so I’m looking forward to it. Just noticed that the conference is sold-out so I guess it will be crowdy.

Maybe I’ll see you there!

2007 Web Conference outlook

I took some time this evening to compile a list of interesting conferences which will be held in 2007. Not that I’m in the illusion that I will be able to attend every single one of them, but at least a couple would be nice. I’m sure that most conferences will be extensively covered in the blogosphere, so put these dates in your agenda:

Search Engine Strategies UK ~ Februari 13-15, London.
Features presentations and panel discussions that cover all aspects of search engine-related promotion.

Future of Web Apps ~ Februari 20-22, London. (I’ll be there)
Three days of inspiration and insight where speakers will be discussing the future of the web industry, Web 2.0, emerging technologies and standards, and how it will change the way you build applications.

Search Engine Strategies NY ~ April 10-13, New York.
I guess kind of the same as what you can see and hear in London, just a bit closer to home when you live on the NY-side of the ocean.

Xtech 2007 ~ May 15-18, Paris.
The theme of the conference is “The Ubiquitous Web. A keynote will be delivered by Adam Greenfield, author of “Everyware: The Dawning Age of Ubiquitous Computing.

Les Blogs 3 announced

Loic Le Meur just announced Les Blogs 3, december 11 and 12th 2006 in Paris. Last year about 450 people attended the conference, this year there is space for 900!

I can’t find any info about the program or speakers yet, hopefully that will follow soon.

Xtech 2007

Just came across an announcement of Xtech 2007.

The theme of the conference for 2007 is “The Ubiquitous Web”. A keynote will be delivered by Adam Greenfield, author of “Everyware: The Dawning Age of Ubiquitous Computing”. Among other things XTech 2007 will cover:

– ubiquitous computing and mobile devices
– linking real life artifacts into the web
– how the web and open data is affecting communities, businesses and science

Sounds really interesting so I think I will try to be there.
